It was a truly auspicious night at the IOC 2016 Awards Women in Sport, honouring outstanding individuals in their contribution towards women in sports. The Awards were introduced in 2000 to recognise the outstanding achievements and contributions of those who promote gender equality in sport. For the first time in history, the  IOC gave it’s top award the IOC Women and Sport World Trophy to a man – Ethiopian journalist Dagim Zinabu Tekle who founded the Lisan Women’s Sport Radio Programme, dedicated to inspiring women and girls to be more active in sport and to pursue their goals and dreams. Tekle said in an IOC statement Monday. “I created this show because I realized that in Ethiopia, women have no voice, and they are not heard.”
