GAISF PARTNERS WITH ITA TO SUPPORT MEMBERS IN REVIEWING ANTI-DOPING RULES

Posted by

GAISF teamed up with the International Testing Agency (ITA) to ensure that all GAISF Members are aware of and able to adapt to the framework of the 2021 World Anti-Doping Code (Code).

As part of a continued effort to fully support Members in their delivery of independent, efficient and compliant anti-doping programmes, GAISF signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the ITA in November 2019.

To ensure a thorough understanding of the complex changes, GAISF and the ITA, in full cooperation with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), will provide Members with a number of opportunities to receive relevant guidance and expert assistance.

These events include a dedicated seminar on 16 March 2020 at the Maison du Sport in the heart of the Olympic capital Lausanne, which can be accessed either remotely or in-person. There will also be the opportunity for Member to arrange formal meetings with WADA at the WADA Symposium in Lausanne on 17-18 March 2020.

Following this, there will be a presentation at the GAISF General Assembly at SportAccord 2020 at the end of April, which will make sure that all GAISF Members receive the appropriate updates and knowledge required to promote clean sport and protect athletes.

As part of the MoU, GAISF Members will also have the opportunity to benefit from assistance provided by the ITA, along with other forms of assistance in cooperation with WADA.

In addition, all GAISF Members have received a set of draft rules to implement the 2021 version of the Code, as well as a user guide to help IFs maintain compliance.

GAISF Members must amend and approve their revised Rules by 1 January 2021, this joint initiative between GAISF and ITA will stand Members in good stead, with the appropriate knowledge to accurately and efficiently update their anti-doping procedures.

GAISF President Raffaele Chiulli said:

Promoting clean sport and protecting athletes is absolutely imperative, and we will always endeavour to support our Members in their efforts to deliver anti-doping programmes which comply with the 2021 World Anti-Doping Code.

“Ensuring that we facilitate and promote knowledge sharing between our Members is one of our key objectives, and putting into effect this MoU between GAISF and the ITA is the perfect demonstration of GAISF’s mission, to always serve the interests of International Federations.

ITA Director General Benjamin Cohen said:

The ITA is committed to delivering world-leading and independent anti-doping services to International Federations. With GAISF acting as the united voice of sports, this is the perfect opportunity to join forces in support of global anti-doping efforts.

“Through this partnership, the ITA will help ensure that all GAISF members are ready for the new 2021 Code and well equipped to continue protecting their athletes and safeguarding clean sport.
