Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, was confirmed as the host city for the 2018 edition of Sportaccord Convention during a stunning Opening Ceremony to mark the official start of this year’s edition in Aarhus.

The announcement was made during a glittering opening ceremony at the Musikhuset, which featured culture, music and the performing arts, as well as speeches from the from the distinguished IOC President Dr Thomas Bach, SportAccord Convention President, Francesco Ricci Bitti,  and the Mayor of Aarhus, Jacob Bundsgaard.

Bangkok – and Thailand as a whole – is renowned for the welcoming nature of this people, and the city is served by numerous international airline, with most countries offering direct flights.
As the main hub for Southeast Asia, the city will provide a base for Convention attendees who are keen to explore a stunning part of the world.  Bangkok provides a multitude of affordable activities, with plenty to offer visitors in terms of culture, shopping and more.

Commenting on the announcement, Francesco Ricci Bitti, President of SportAccord Convention and the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF), said: “It will be a pleasure to bring the 2018 SportAccord Convention to Bangkok, Thailand, and I would like to thank the Government of Thailand for supporting the Convention, which will be the 16th edition.

I am con dent our collaboration with Bangkok and the Government of Thailand will provide an excellent platform for the international sports community to build on the excellent work achieved at past Conventions, while more than meeting the needs of our stakeholders and delegates.”

H.E. Mrs. Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, said: “We are delighted and honoured to be hosting the next edition of SportAccord Convention in Bangkok.

“We believe our city will provide a wonderful experience for delegates and the sports world, who will be able to experience the culture and warm hospitality of the Thai people.”
